While these additions to the list are of interest, the aim here is that each student create an outline for their own imagined detective story. That is, where the article states 'choose a time period and locale' each author should choose a time period and locale for an imagined detective story of their own, as is indicated by the instruction to 'fill in the element.' One should then go on to 2) develop a detective, 3) outline a crime 4) include some clues, and so on. Essentially the goal here is a list from which one could write a detective story.
