There is an HBO series called Entourage, which is about a guy who makes it big in hollywood and takes along his three best friends to live and work for him. It gives you a behind the scenes look at being a up and coming star in hollywood and I think feminist writers would have a field day with this series. I've been watching the show from the very first episode and the past couple of seasons have definitely been its weakest but all in all it's somewhat enjoyable. But what I think the feminist writers would have a field day with is the way women are portrayed in this show. Almost everytime Vincent Chase goes anywhere women throw themselves at him and he has sex almost every episode with these gorgeous women. I don't know if that happens in real life because obviously I am not an A-List actor, because if I was I certainly wouldn't be in Queens college finishing my degree. But women are portrayed more on the lines of objects in this show then anything else. They are sexual objects for Vincent Chase and his friends, and the way his friends speak about women would make Virgina WoolF cringe and possibly lead to violence.
And I know Los Angeles is a nice place and the weather is sunny most of the time but the women cast as extras in this show is something else to think about. You will not see any women over 120 pounds walking anywhere near the camera. And if you do there will no doubt be a terrible remark made about them. And now that I'm thinking about this show in this way, it's kind of crazy with what they get away with. Don't take my word for it because I have never been there but im pretty sure Los Angeles has to have some women that are overweight and not front page models walking everywhere. Now I'm not a feminist by any means but I could see maybe the point of them being angry at this show for these situations. But then you have to think, this is what feminist want in some way. Now they have the right to choose if they want to be having sex with every good looking actor that comes there way. Im not saying all feminist want to sleep around but they fought for women to be able to do whatever they want and when they are looked at as sexual objects, who's fault is it really?

I don't even know where to start. First of all, women fought for equality, not the ability to do whatever we want. Nobody has a right to do whatever they want. Second of all, women were always viewed as sex objects, even before we were allowed to wear revealing clothing. We were raped and sold into marriage when we still had to wear dresses that covered every inch of us.
I do not mean to offend, but I am very surprised at how many of us in the class are missing the point on feminism. Why is it considered embarrassing or bad to be a feminist? In this post you provide a very insightful, accurate feminist reading of a show on television but feel the need to say that you're not a feminist. Why?
