Marx Overview

Learning about Marxism, I began to realize the big picture between capitalist countries and communist countries. In capitalist countries there are the upper, middle, and lower classes who have financial dependence in so many different ways from either their employment or reliability on the government. In communist countries everyone has equal opportunity for education, employment, and hospitality where access to such opportunities are free. In the United States there are thousands of people who have raised families with limited access to health insurance, and I think that’s a major problem today. Throughout study in this class, my thoughts have changed and I began to understand the major differences between communist and capitalist ideology. How people live in two different societies appear to be counterparts from each other. Watching movies on the Bicycle thieves and the other film with Marlon Brando shows a major societal contrast. It was also great to discuss communism in class, which had to do with politics and the dangers of being a citizen under communist rule. I was impressed when I was reading the Marxist critic “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid where so much exhaustive labor had to be learned and practiced by the girl when her mother teaches her to do labor correctly. There is symbolism in the story, where the mother was the supervisor and the girl was the means of production in a communist system of government.
After a few class discussions I began to further interpret Sarah Cole and her proletariat lifestyle, contrasting from Ron the bourgeoisie which was one of the most compelling story we have read about and discussed. The least would be Rudolph’s shiny new economy, because we all know that in a communist society there is no exception, you can’t be limited to a higher occupation. Writing up my paper consisted of a lot of reading on Marx and Anna Karenina. The Anna Karenina book itself was interesting and not complicated which brought up topics on communism, and liberalism. Its great that we talked about it in class, however much of the interpretations for Marx had to come from particular characters in Anna Karenina apart from the main character who is Anna, they had to be Levin and Nicholas whose ambitions were interesting and more importantly clarified my topic in relation to Marxist ideology.
