Marxism Unit
When we first examined the marxism unit i can honestly say i knew nothing about marxism. I still feel as if i have no clue what this subject is all about, but I can at least understand it a bit more now. I have learned how Marx deals with "explotation and opression". Also something else i've learned in this subject was how to take a reading, which we've read in class and view it as how Marx would think about it. I would say that this part was the most compelling part of this subject. I enjoyed having to read a reading and interpert the reading in a way that we would view it, and then see how Marx would view it. Some of the Marxist readings we have dealt with in this class are Girl by Jamaica Kincaid, Rudolph's Shiny New Economy, and A Marxist Critical Reading of Great Expectations. My favorite Marxist reading is Rudolph's Shiny New Economy. I really enjoyed reading this story because at first I had no idea what to expect, but once you read the story, Marx really shows us how true this story is. When this story is interperted you can now have a different view on christmas, about the christmas economy and a different view of the story Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. As for Marxist's critism, I find it very much appealing how his writings mostly involve "economic system" issuses. What confuses me the most is when Marx's speaks about the "evolution of capitialism". I'm still quite confused on that, because I never actually got into that topic much. This Marxism unit has helped me develop a more clear understanding on how I can view the novel I chose for my paper. I really didnt use Marxism much, though because as I said before I was still some what connfused, about Marxism. Besides the obstacle I had learning about Marxism, I felt it was an interesting subject to cover.
