woolf

To be honest, I really don't understand what is going on here. I have read both articles that you assigned to read and I really don't even understand what they are arguing. Beauvoir's first two paragraphs went way over my head and from there on I was lost. Is he showing the two points of view that women should be homemakers and the other view of women as equals? I don't understand when he is talking about the saintly mother or a virgin is dedicated to the devil. I must have completely missed something, I even went back and read it again, even though the first time was painful enough, and still nothing was clicking. From what I understood of Beauoir is that he is in favor of women to have equal right I guess. "Men need not bother themselveswith alleviating the pains and the burdens that physiologically are women's lot, since these are 'intended by nature'; men use them as a pretext for increasing the misery of the feminine lot still further, for instance by refusing to grant to a women any right to sexual pleasure. by makin her work like a beast of burden." So I guess these supports the fact that he is in favor of women? I guess?

Woolf was a little less confusing but still very difficult to get through. I found myself thinking about everything expect what she was talking about. But I still am a little confused on what her point is exactly about. Women should be better with their money or should be more aware of whats going on? I don't know, very confusing and also I don't feel well, maybe that's why I am having trouble concentrating.
