Morocco

Morocco is a country located in North Africa, currently the population is over 33,000,000 people. Morocco is the only country in Africa that is not a part of the African Union. The land was not always unified, but was usually ruled by small tribal states. There were many conflicts between Berbers and Arabs .After the war in France, it was Portugal and Spain who began invading Morocco.

During the 17th and 18th centuries, European powers quickly became interested in colonizing the country. It was in 1840, when the French and Spanish fought over Morocco. Finally in 1904, France and Spain agreed to divide Morocco into different sections; the different sections were French and Spanish. France controlled almost all of Morocco and Spain controlled the small southwest portion, which became known as the Spanish Sahara. Morocco became a greater reason for European rivalry. This rivalry almost led to a European war in 1905, when Germany tried to get control of the country. In 1906, at the Algeciras Conference, the sultan of Morocco kept control of his lands and France lost its privileges. It wasn’t until 1956, that France and Spain recognized the independence of Morocco.
