"Communism differs from all precious movements in that it overturns the basis of all earlier realtions of production and intercourse, and for the first time consciously treats all natural premises as the creatures of men, strips them of their natural character and subjugates them to the power of individuals united. Its organization is, therefore, essentially economic, the material production of the conditions of its unity, it turns existing conditions into conditions of unity." (18)
The danger of taking only an excerpt out of a larger work is you loose some context. I am unclear as to what he means by 'natural premises' or 'natural character' or 'conditions of unity'? I think this work should come with its own dictionary.
For clarification of the context of his work check out: http://www.isreview.org/issues/33/germanideology.shtml

I also find this paragraph a little confusing. i think what they are trying to say here is that communism allow people to make their own choice in life. "strip them of all their natural character and subjugates them to the power of individual united." i think what they are trying to say here is that this make us as humans to be able to listen to other people's point of view. it make us put away our pride and be sensetive to others.
