Brief summary of Ex colony

Puerto Rico is a colony that was owned by Spain and traded to the U.S. Puerto Rico was a colony of Spain and could not trade with any other country. In the mid 1770s, the 13 English colonies went against England. Soon ships from the USA were docking in San Juan to trade slaves and food for agricultural products including “molasses for making rum”. Also, during the American war for independence, some American ships docked in Puerto Rico to stay safe. Puerto Rico, by “royal decree”, was granted dependence on November 28,1897. The Spanish American War broke out in April of 1898, and on July 25,1898 Puerto Rico was invaded by 16,000 troops of the USA On October 18, 1898 Puerto Rico's government changed to an “American military government”. On December 10, 1898. “The Treaty of Paris” stated that “Spain was to cede Puerto Rico, Guam and Philippines to the USA”. Cuba would also become a colony of the USA. Also another Ex colony would be known as New York City, and the Dutch colonies were bought by England.
